About Us

Operating as a ministry of Calvary San Diego, CCA Preschool (formerly Bonita Christian Preschool) has been providing childcare since 1994. We have been located on our beautiful Otay Ranch campus since 2004, serving thousands of families in the San Diego area. We are a faith-based Preschool meaning that we biblically integrate all of our instruction and ask our teachers to be regularly attending a local Christian church and to model Christ-like behaviors and attitudes in and out of the classroom. We highly value play as a means for learning, development of social skills and important milestones in the lives of young children. We compliment play with direct instruction in academics scaffolding academic learning in preparation for Kindergarten.

Mission

CCA Preschool exists to train and develop children’s character and potential- “thoroughly equipping them for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:17).

We operate as a partnership between parents and qualified Christian educators to provide a loving, age-appropriate environment that will promote whole-person development. We believe this is best done by balancing the structure of our daily schedule and the freedom of self-expression and cognitive exploration through multi-sensory art and play. We believe God has placed us in a position to steward and direct instruction and play in a way that honors God and represents the transformational power of Jesus Christ in the world so that every child knows their worth.

CURRICULUM

We utilize the A Beka curriculum to teach letters and sounds with the goal of our students becoming emerging readers as the prepare for Kindergarten. We implement TouchMath beginning in our three-year-old classrooms to provide a strong foundation in mathematics. For Chapel and Bible lessons, we use the Jesus Storybook Bible to ensure that lessons are age-appropriate and gospel-centered. Teachers also create lesson plans to ensure opportunities for arts and crafts, sensory play, free play and prewriting skills often in correlation with thematic units.

ENROLLMENT

CCA accepts all children, ages 2-5 years old, within enrollment limits, regardless of race, religion, sex, color or national origin. The school, however, is not equipped to meet the needs of children who cannot benefit from a group experience and parents must comply with the rules of the school.

Philosophy of Teaching & Learning

  • Our Spiritual Development is based on the remarkable truth that humans are God’s grand finale of creation and are all created with the Imago Dei, the unique image and likeness of God Himself, and the understanding that we can be transformed further into His likeness by believing the Good News of what Jesus has done for us and trusting Him for the forgiveness of our sin. We have the right and responsibility to regulate and steward all the good gifts He has given us like our health, our homes, our choices and our minds. All of life can best be framed through a growing knowledge of who the God of the Bible is and how our actions and choices can worship Him. Students will be exposed to Old Testament and New Testament stories with the aim of knowing the character and salvific acts of God. Students will be instructed how even the most basic of relationships require God’s help and guidelines and will be encouraged to conduct themselves in light of a growing understanding of forgiveness, kindness and honesty. This will be encouraged through Bible time, Chapel, times of discipline, prayer, the memorization of Scripture and the Ten Commandments and the overall environment of the classroom.

  • We are like God through the qualities He has put within us, like our emotions, our ability to choose and to work, and through the qualities of our character that reflect Him like kindness, respect for each other, truthfulness and love; therefore, we aim to instruct each student to regulate his or her emotions and develop healthy relationships with God, each other, their teachers and their families. Understanding our own basic emotions and developing a respect for others fosters empathy, self-help skills and the emotional maturity needed to interact in the classroom and in the world as disciples of Christ.

  • We are like God through our ability to communicate through language. God’s primary form of communication is through His written Word; therefore, we will teach children the basics of verbal and written language so that we can effectively understand His word and share it with others. We will instruct students by patterning our own speech after God’s and encouraging diligence in learning to read and write and speak to our highest potential.

  • God is the Designer and Sustainer of all things and called us to develop, maintain and repair the natural world for the furtherance of His Gospel and the enjoyment of His creation. This role requires us to pursue truth in observation of the world around us through analytical and problem-solving skills; therefore, each student will learn about the world and its natural laws through instruction in science themes, counting, sorting, measuring, building, sensory exploration, spatial awareness and other foundational concepts in mathematics. Children will be encouraged to ask questions, design through art and play, and discuss and implement solutions to their everyday problems.

  • All of God’s creation was good in both beauty and function and displayed traits that make Him uniquely God. This pattern of creativity and self-expression also exists in us as His image-bearers. This means that’s all of our work should also display His beauty and excellence as we strive toward creating a culture that represents Christ. Our students will be given ample opportunities to create, express and display their unique and God-given talents through worship, free art, teacher-directed crafts, music and movement, dramatic play centers and school-wide programs established on Biblical themes.

  • God intricately fashioned each of us while in our mother’s womb, creating physical attributes and traits that both unite us humans and make each of us unique as individuals. We must steward our bodies by cultivating an understanding of how they work and a love for physical activity. Physical activity will be developed through fine motor and large motor play that includes foundational skills for sports like kicking, climbing or throwing. Students will grow in awareness of their own bodies through movement activities and instruction in basic health concepts like anatomy, hygiene and proper nutrition.
